Silicon Carbide Polishing
Silicon Carbide is increasingly being used in the optics industry to
replace components previously manufactured out of Beryllium. The material
offers a viable alternative with light weight, high specific stiffness,
high thermal conductivity and excellent dimensional stability.
General Optics has developed a great deal of expertise
in polishing silicon carbide (SiC) mirrors. We can polish CVD SiC and lightweighted
versions of this material. Our manufacturing facility will polish customer
supplied substrates or we will be pleased to source the substrates and provide
completed polished mirrors. We also are able to offer SiC cladding using our
IBS coating chambers to ensure the finest possible final surface finish.
Finally, we can deposit a variety of optical coatings on the finished mirror
as desired. Typical achievable specifications for our SiC polished
components are as follows:
Typical Specifications
- Sizes
- Thickness
- Surface Figure
- Surface Roughness
- CVD SiC Cladding
- Optical Coatings
- Up to 20” Diameter
- 1mm or greater
- Up to 1/50 Wave on smaller sizes
- Better than 0.7 Å RMS
- Up to 10um thick
- Various reflective coatings available
Please send us your drawings and specifications for SiC
components and we will be pleased to provide a quotation. General Optics
is a premier supplier of high volume, high quality, ultraprecision components.
